Welcome!
Hello, Dodd Families!
I want to welcome you and your child to Music class at Dodd Elementary. My name is Elisa Lawson, and I am starting my 14th year in education, and my 13th year at Dodd. We have lots of fun things in store for the school year, including instruments, singing games, folk dances, performances, and most importantly, reading music! We start second grade with just two pitches on the staff and simple rhythms; and by the end of fifth grade, students should be familiar with all the pitches on the treble staff, simple and compound rhythms, and all of the instruments in the orchestra.
Students are only in Music class 50 minutes each week, but music is part of our everyday lives. Even if you don't consider yourself a singer, you can help support your child's music education by singing and humming around the house, saying nursery rhymes together, talking about the music on the radio, and attending as many live performances as possible.
Please set up a conference or e-mail me with any special information I may need to know about your child so that I can best serve his or her needs and have a wonderful year of making music at Dodd.
